Wicked Wingers #1 – Jonah Lomu

by Tom Fox

Where else to start other than the man himself? One of the first global superstars of rugby union, Jonah Lomu burst onto the scene in the 1995 World Cup in a fashion that has not been seen since. The sheer physicality of the man matched with frightening pace made him the biggest draw in rugby. Who can forget his four tries in againt England in the semi final of the ’95 World Cup? One of which, he took the time to walk over Mike Catt..

The all time top try scorer in rugby world cup history, Lomu has battled some health issues along the way but we should remember him in his prime, when he was simply phenomenal. 6 ft 5 in, 19 stone and reportedly ran a sub 11 second 100 metres; 10.8 to be exact. These are the type of attributes which make a decent winger.. He changed the face of rugby as we know it and did so with shuddering style. Feast on this beast.
