Sam Tomkins Ripping it Up

by Tom Fox

International rugby makes a welcome return this weekend post the World Cup, as the Barbarians host Australia in what should be an enjoyable clash for the Killik Cup. Twickenham plays host to the contest which boasts a star studded line up.

Coached by Graham Henry, the Baa Baas will be captained by Victor Matfield and also have recent World Cup winners Jerome Kaino,  Kenin Mealmu and Adam Thompson in their ranks, among others. The one player who is attracting the most excitement however is Sam Tomkins – the rugby league sensation who is playing a once off rugby union test match. The Wigan Warriors player is a genuine talent and it will be more than interesting to see how he adapts to the 15 man code.

Wigan Warriors decision to allow Tomkins to play in such a high profile rugby union match has sparked anger from the rugby league fraternity. They don’t want to lose one of their prized assets. To see what all the fuss is about, check out the video below, the boy got skills!

I am REALLY looking forward to this! I hope Tomkins lives up to the hype that is surrounding him. He is an exceptional rugby league player.

If all goes well, I’m just hoping he comes to union while he is still in his prime rather than waiting until his powers are waning, so that we get a Jason Robinson type player and not an Andy Farrell type one. Fingers crossed, be great for our sport, not sure the league boys would feel the same!
